FORE ALL! holds clinics throughout the country (and around the world) to
teach people with disabilities how to play golf -- either for the first
time, or, if they have played before, how to adapt their game after a
disabling incident or illness.
The FORE ALL! clinics consist of
instruction for people with
disabilities, training and direction for therapists and golf
professionals so they can continue using our program on a weekly basis, a
competition component, and, at the end of the clinic, good food, good
golf stories, prizes for those who won the various competitions, and
prizes "fore all".
FORE ALL! clinics will be held at
golf course driving ranges at the
nicest courses in the United States and around the world (see Brown, et
al. v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas).
To motivate our participants, we hold
some of our clinics in
conjunction with the Dennis Walters Golf Show. Dennis, a member of FORE
ALL!'s honorary board, is a professional golfer ("trick shot artist")
who is paralyzed from the waist down. Dennis
performs at PGA Tour events all over the country, and has earned the
respect and admiration of his colleagues on the PGA, Senior, LPGA, and
Nike Tours.
At every clinic, participants are
given a FORE ALL! scorecard. Every time they complete a practice
session with a certified instructor (local golf professional or
therapist), they will have their instructor sign, date, and stamp their
scorecard. After attending a certain number of sessions, golfers are
rewarded with prizes (buckets of balls, greens fees, golf shirts, etc.).
Instructors collect data at each
session in order to monitor all
participants' progress. Data is transferred to FORE ALL! and is
viewable over the internet, through FORE ALL!'s website. When
participants log on to www.foreall.org, and then click on The FORE ALL!
Drive, Chip, and Putt Challenge, they will be able to find their names
(complete with photo and bio), listed in the standings for various
competitions.
Leaders in the standings will have
the opportunity to compete for big prizes in regional competitions,
which will lead to the national (and, ultimately, international) FORE
ALL! Drive, Chip, and Putt Challenge, held in concert with a major PGA
Tour/USGA event.
